One of the most exciting aspect of being in the standup space is how rapidly it’s evolving. And a key part challenge of that is to figure ways to reach higher, find bigger fish to fry. And one such target for evam Standup Tamasha this year was that we decided to have a target of 3 international tours. It is the kind of target that makes you excited when you come up with it but when you look back at it one week later, away from the company offsite, you realise how daunting it is.
We finished our super successful 25 city tour of the USA (and in hindsight, little insane) in August-Sep. While in the middle of it, we’d started planning our maiden United Kingdom tour. Identifying a new country to go to and figuring out how we can crack the Indian demographic there is a tremendous challenge. And it is one that we were fortunately able to crack with aplomb.
We partnered with Blue Feather Studios for the same – a beautiful spirited company run by a smart, hardworking couple from India. And together, we did 5 shows across Reading, Milton Keynes, Camden, Wembley, Birmingham. Our goal was to hit 500 people and breakeven. We ended up with filling over 800 folks and most importantly, now opened up a whole new market!
Can’t wait to program more shows and shake up the Indian standup scene in UK!
