The crazy and delightful world of theatre when seen through my eyes…
Rajesh is a trainer of evam Happy Cow, an actor, short film director, a theatre artist, sometimes a dancer and sometimes none of the above.
People stick to doing the work that satisfies them. I don’t want to work on things that only satisfy me. Work should also make me laugh, smile, scream, run… And most importantly, it should give me delight. And that is THEATRE. It gives me the euphoric feeling that can’t be explained in words.
So, here’s how theatre found me. I was in 4th standard. Till then, my world had been really dull. No hands had applauded me, no voice had appreciated me and I was not my teacher’s pet. At last, the day came… I got a chance to act in a play as a king and I loved it.
When the show ended up, the auditorium was filled with terrific whistles. The audience was standing but I did not know that this was a standing ovation. A girl from my class smiled at me and said, “YOU ROCKED!” and I couldn’t stop blushing.
That day turned my world topsy-turvy. This delight led me to run towards theatre.
How do people react if you are a theatre artist?
I bet if you told someone that you are a theatre artist, these would be the kind of reactions you’d get – Some would say “WOW”. Some would say, “You are doing a great
job”. Some would simply smile and say, “You are gifted”. Doesn’t that make you swell with pride? How do you feel when one of your friends (say, a doctor) asks you for a chance in your play? You would never ask him/her for her a chance to do a bypass surgery! That’s the power of theatre. Everyone is fascinated with the subject and capable of emoting.
The Delight of Performing on Stage
Whatever your field is, performance is must. In a theatre performance, people whistle and applaud you, sometime they even request you for an autograph. Performance in theatre awards you fans. They shout your name when you enter the stage and appreciate your performance. This is real happiness for me.
I think theatre is the craziest job in the universe. Thank you theatre for adding a colorful feather in my cap. My advice to everyone would be to get out of their comfort zone and add some drama in their lives through theatre. This is the best way to know and understand the real delight of life… Tears of joy is a guarantee. :)
