That academic wretchedness of IIT, escaping the real world through the sweet taste of social taboos, and the cliched yet truly comforting sensation of friendship and love. Sound familiar? You read it by the neck-breaking writing of Chetan Bhagat, possibly saw the stage production in Chennai, couple of years ago. Well, it’s back and it’s on for three months, going national!
Five Point Someone by Evam, presenting an all Bangalorian cast. With a variety of characters to choose from, the auditions will kickstart the production on 15th and 16th of November at what they call:

Try the twelve hour drill on day one from 10 AM to 10 PM, or just show your stuff on day two between 10 AM and 4 PM.

For months, there have been rumours, murmurs, discussions and truck loads of gossip. They all say, “Pavi is getting married to Navin!” (in the interest of general readers, Pavi alias Pavithra Ramaswamy is one of evam’s oldest employees. And no, by ‘old’, we mean experience old, not age old )

Brief history – Navin and Pavi met at the first CUT workshop. Eyes met, hearts swapped, the whole nine yards, you get the picture right? So anyway- 4 years or so later, they are getting MARRIED!

So it began with some 8 different functions in 3 different cities. And yes, that’s why evam has been in hiding for a while. We’ve been busy with the wedding

So evam was basically designated two very important jobs.

A) The mehendi dance and

B) The conduct of the wedding!

So here’s the deal. The mehendi function is on Wednesday and on Monday, we decide to dance. Chaos and confusion, initially! Lots of it! We gathered around fifteen people to dance and organizing it wasn’t too hard after all, owing to star dancers in team like Aparna, Bhavya, Megha and the legend-wait for it-ary “LP!”. We choreographed about ten songs and D-Day was not too far away! The music began and so did the jitters! We had a really cool storyline planned out for the dance and the whole event was a HUGE hit!

The next function, the wedding was on! The bride decided that she was the “DUDE” of the wedding, with extremely comprehensive department allotments and all that jazz. Everything was super organized and absolutely brilliant.So yeah, the thaali was tied (iyengar and mallu style) and everyone was happy

Here’s to Pavi and Navin, we wish you guys a lifetime of happiness and to Evam, for spreading more and more happiness like we always do!

Hello, ye drama queens!

Okay, kings too. No discrimination, we live in a democratic country. Our Fundamental Rights include the right to equality, the right to freedom.. and now.. the right to THEATRE! Evam’s newest venture to democratise theatre is a go, and with a bang! Covering over 15 colleges in Tamil Nadu, Airtel Theatricals is bringing drama to campus gates!

A grand festival and competition among the top 15 colleges in Tamil Nadu, who will each produce the script given to them in 30 mins on stage. And wait there is more! They will be judged not only on their production, but on how they promoted their play and how many audiences they got to see their show! This is a competition of theatre entrepreneurship, potentially creating 15 more theatre groups and democratizing theatre among the youth.

How?

Step 1:  Sign up for evam’s free theatre workshop in your college this October

Step 2: Turn the given script into a 30-min production, and remember you’ll have to be as creative as possible to make a mark with the judges!

Step 3: Promote it like crazy, sell/give out/pay people to buy tickets for YOUR show, stage your play and compete with the top colleges in the city!

This is the platform to launch your very own theatre group and test out the theatre and entrepreneurship qualities in you! Can you make theatre sustainable? Can you win the Airtel Theatricals trophy???

The journey starts this October! (the journey has already started and well on its way for some of the colleges. HURRY!)

Running eh? Umph. Exactly my initial reaction too!

Never been a fan of these group running events. I miss the point. Getting up early, running miles together, getting exhausted instead of relaxing those old muscles? Why, why? That’s exactly what we asked Subbu, an active marathon-er. “It’s all about the spirit” he says. What spirit? “Well… You RUN!! And there’re some 300 people running with you. It feels like you’re marching towards a great cause.” I’m not convinced. But.. Maybe.. Could be worth a shot.

Amidst visiting relatives, gulping down sweets, bursting crackers and getting drowned in boring, pointless yet impossible-to-tear-away-from television, we took some time off to visit the cancer institute for Diwali!

In April our Project HAPPY took over the children’s play room of the Cancer Institute’s new Pediatric Ward in Adyar.

Diwali we went, hung out with the kids, burst crackers, shared a few laughs.. Shared the spirit of the festival of light.

Evam’s newestest brainchild, Theatricals is in town! It’s for us, the slacking youth, sucked dry of all enthusiasm thanks to our monotonous college life. Here’s an escape! Just sign your college up. Quickly! Get to it before November peeks in. Done? Now attend the free workshop conducted by Evam on your campus, for you and all your dramatic friends. You will then get a script to be adapted and presented to compete amongst the top 15 colleges in our theatre-rich city on the 12th and 13th of December. Where, you ask? Sign up, only then will you know.

The response has been killer thus far. SRM and Ethiraj college have already encountered the one day theatrical enrichment. Think your college can do better? Well, what are you waiting for! Prove it!

It’s a wholesome experience of being part of/ running a theatre company, right from the prop-pressures to the ticket-tensions. A 30 minute script presented, well after a day long workshop on learning how to do it. It can’t get any simpler!

All you oldies who are already out of college, come watch! But before that, tell your juniors.

May the best adaptation win! Woohoo!
